I hope this will help people thinking about releasing equity. I recently went through the process and managed to release a lump-sum of cash which I used to pay off the rest of our mortgage and also pay for a holiday to see my children over in Australia. Something that really helped me make my decision was having the ability with the plan we chose, to guarantee a certain amount of inheritance to our children so that they get something when we are gone.

Looks like I'm one of the first visitors to this forum! Has anybody out there used an equity release scheme and can tell me a bit about this. Can I pay off my mortgage and can they kick me out of the house?
